Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Class of 1950

The Alumni News

Vol. 1 No. 1 of the Alumni News went to press in June 1996 as a four-page newsletter.  The lead article was the June 1, 1994 dedication of the student courtroom named in honor of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ’50. The Alumni News has since evolved into a 12-page “magazine” mailed out bi-annually to members of the Alumni Association. Join the JMHSAA and you will enjoy reading alumni and faculty profiles, class news, announcements of upcoming events, and updates on how your donations to JMHSAA are being utilized for the benefit of Madison students today.

In past issues we highlighted such distinguished graduates as writer Jane Brody ’58, presidential historian Robert Dallek ’52, Olympic athlete Marty Glickman '33, U.S. Ambassador Herbert Okun ’47, and baseball player Frank Torre ’50. Some of the faculty members profiled were teachers Bob Greenman ’57 (English), Rae Salit Marcus ’41 (math), Deborah Tannenbaum (English), football coach Al Caruso, basketball coach Jammy Moskowitz, and principals Joseph Gogliormella and Max Newfield. Recent articles showcased Madisonians in Hollywood, the creation of Madison’s Wall of Distinction, and our three U.S. Senators – Norm Coleman ’66 (R-Minnesota), Bernie Sanders ’59 (Ind-Vermont), and Chuck Schumer ’67 (D-New York).

An invitation is extended to all alums to send in news items for the Year by Year page and submit ideas for articles for future issues. If you have a writing background and would like to be a reporter, editors Judith Naomi Ophir Fish ’64, coralyn@aol.com, and Frieda Gottfried Weitz ’54, friedagw@verizon.net, would love to hear from you.
